countertop type materials for wall fountain?

Question by icpooreman: countertop type materials for wall fountain?
So I've decided to build my own wall fountain similar to these...

and after a lot of research of how to do it I've got a decent idea for most everything I'll need to do. But I can't decide on the material for the back. I'm trying to cut down costs and I like a solid structure rather than using material like tiles which look ok but I feel a more solid or stone look looks a lot better.

Any type of material you can list that you think may work would be great. Help me think outside the box!!! I'm by no means an expert in the subject so any ideas would be great.

Formica, (laminated plastic), like they use on countertops, or, how about any kind of scenery or painting, protected by a piece of glass. Maybe a stained glass window, sealed with resin.

Whatever you make, consider putting that chemical in the water that makes the water glow Aqua when black light is aimed at it. It's beautiful!

  1. What about trying a nice piece of slate, it’s very solid and plus a nice natural look. Good luck with your project.

  2. Go to a granite shop and pick out a piece of scrap you like that is the right size. Most will give you a sweet deal on it and the colors are endless.

  3. Outside the box….how about corrian, when I used to do remodels on businesses I used to throw away thousands of dollars worth of this stuff. If you can find it used you can probably get it cheap, easy to recondition. It is easy to put a design in with a router as well. Very versatile.

  4. Marble, slate or granite are natural stone thta can be cut and shaped.

  5. I suggest going to the local BLM office and getting a permit (only 20 dollars at the most) and going to the local rock pit to get natural material. The BLM will have a list of rocks that can be removed and how to do it. My hubby and I do it all the time. Good luck!!
