Taylor's political experience in Tuscaloosa has swung from one extreme to another. He was part of perhaps its most infamous example political repression, the tear-gassing of First African Baptist Church. He has become one of its best examples of improving race relations by becoming City Council president on a majority white council in a majority white city.
