Question by souicat: Is it safe for dogs to DRINK from a pool, water fountain or river/lake?
Is it safe for a dog to drink out of a pool, water fountain or river/lake? My dog is fully vaccinated and on preventative medications to avoid worms and fleas, etc.

Thank you to everyone who sent me an answer so far... as for the water fountain, I don't mean a drinking fountain for humans, but like a decorative fountain where children sometimes play and splash around... sometimes there are lights, sometimes water falls or sprays, etc... I keep thinking these must be safe because children play with it and wildlife must come by to use the water resource... is this so? Thanks again to everyone!

I think you are probably ok with the water fountain however pools usually contain chlorine and lots of other chemicals. Lakes often contain bacteria some of which can be deadly for dogs. The preventive medicine for worms, ticks and fleas won't help you with this.
