Puppies drink from fountain?
Question by alicia_yong@sbcglobal.net: Puppies drink from fountain?
In the townhome patio area behind my apartment, I often pass by puppies taking a walk, who stop by and stand over the fountain to lap up the water. Is that their natural instinct?

The fountain circulates the water, and this in turn keeps it cooler and less stagnant. This is very appealing to dogs! The water in the bowl at home sits out for hours on end, and eventually tastes ’stale’. I know a few owners who have to change their dog’s water twice daily in an effort to keep them drinking, as the dogs are sensitive to the taste of the water. Companies now are even marketing these water circulating units for dogs at home. The moving water is tastier and in some cases healthier for our dogs.

Dogs drink when they are thirsty. But, if the fountain has chemicals in it, the smell of it could also be attracting them to lap it up. Hopefully it won’t be harmful to them.

Dogs and puppies are naturally fascinated by running water whether it be a fountain, garden hose, sprinkler, etc.
